Oh my!  I'm thoroughly annoyed by all the things fistulas can do!  Seriously!  Bunch of worms snaking their way wherever they want in our bodies!  :-)

No "healing" as of yet but things have quieted down CONSIDERABLY since I started the Ghee routine.  I'm not sure though if it's the Ghee or the elimination of all gas producing foods that's quieted things down.  There are days I have next to nothing coming out and I hold my breath praying it will close.  Because I've seen a significant change right away in output I'm going to continue with this for much longer and see what happens.  Easy thing for me to be a ginny pig on!

Technically I'm not at the Mayo now - they were the ones that did my surgery in 2012.  I've gone back to my original surgeon at the Univ of MN since then.  Regardless though - I'm going in for a 4th opinion on Nov 19 and meeting with a gastroenterologist as well (in the process of making that appointment).

Have a wonderful weekend!

Pl go through my post.

I'd like to hear the theory behind ghee, and ghee+milk (why milk?) as to how it helps fistulas.  I can find no real info. on-line.

Ileopouch - how are you doing with your ghee/milk/etc. routine?

I have no idea what the theory is and I'm guessing it just works with a different kind of fistula.  A couple of websites that support the the use (success stories) include: http://mylifestylejo...fistula-part-2/ and http://goodguy.hubpages.com/hub/Cure-for-anal-fistula  Things slowed down a bit for me but ultimately I didn't gain success.  I continued to try through 3 jars of ghee but it's still the same.  With an ileoanal resevouir I think I'm stuck with only surgical options.   For others though it may be worth a try.

Hi people. Dont wait in pain. Get the surgery. I had my fistula about 2 months ago because of a very bad hemmorroid that became a blood cloth. When the hemo was gone it left a fistula. My colorectal surgeon recomended surgery. I had it done 11 days ago. It was a small superficial fistula. I was not going to live in pain or fear. The first four days post surgery were the worst. Some pain and fear of B.M. it was just that fear!! Today just 11 days after surgery Im happy. Just some discomfort after B.M. just that. I went to my Doc. Today and he was very happy and very up beat. My surgery is most that 50% closed. He said in two weeks back to normal life. Just take it easy and no bike for me for 6 weeks more. ( im a cyclist and tri athelete). After surgery keep the area clean and do the sitz baths 3 or more times a day and after B.M. Eat healty. Stay away from constiparion!!! Get a good colorectal surgeon and don't live in pain. The surgery is the only Real and permanent remedy. Be aware that people who had susccsesful surgery don't look back and post. Thats why the vast mayority of coments are negative. Thays why I posted this!!! Again dont be afraid. The susccses rate of the surgery is moore than 90%! The incontinence % is less than 3 -4%. And is in very bad and complicated cases. Even people with bad cases are cured with surgery. Don't endure pain just because of fear!!! I will keep posting my case!!! Again dont live in pain and fear. Get medical treatment that works!!

So glad to hear of your success Vlademar! Unfortunately there are MULTIPLE types of fistulas. The surgery for my type has a projected success rate of 50% and I've had surgery done once by a mayo clinic colorectal surgeon in Rochester, MN (the ultimate medical destination in the world) and the surgery failed. The fistula is worse than it was before the surgery and it's less likely to be successful each time a repair is attempted. Thus, now my success rate is less than 50%. Mine is a connection between the ileoanal reservoir I have in place of a colon and the vagina. Not pleasant and not easily fixed. There's no fear of surgery involved - I've had no less than 7 surgeries before and after I had colitis - it's the futility of the time off work and complications and risks that go with surgery for something that's probably not going to work. Looking for alternative methods to heal or endure is sometimes the only real option. Wishing you the very best in your recovery! I'd suggest you double the time they tell you to take it easy to be absolutely sure it's healed. I would give anything to have had your type of fistula!

I understand Ileopouch. Yes diferent cases diferent treatments. What i tried to do with my post is to give some positive to people who are afraid to do surgery and have simple and not complicated cases. I pray for every one with this condition every night. Is not easy. I hope you get well soon. Just don't loose hope! Keep positive thinking. I ordered the ghee to used post surgery for some time. I did eat very healthy and used garlic and onion this past days to help with the healing. I had a glass of bit juice and carrots with some sweet pepper and lemon juice to help the inmune sistem. I feel for you and every person with hard to treat fistulas. But again I want people to understand theres hope out there. There are susccses stories to. Just keep going strong and stay positive. My faith has help a lot for me. Today is the 12 day after surgery. I had a B.M first in the morning Im regular on that part. No pain no discomfort thanks to God. Keeping every thin super clean down there has been a key part in my recovery, my surgeon was very pleased with that. He said the sitz baths with warm water help remove the infecction and encourage healing. My point is : stay positive and have faith.

Paul, this is a really helpful description. I can only wish and hope that my surgery is as successful as yours seems to have been. Can you give us an update at present?

Also, I also have a hard area on my left cheek -- it's like this gross 1 cm x 1cm bit of bloody/liquidy thing, and then next to it, a couple CMs of harder skin -- so this is not natural? And it is related to the fistula? I am trying to understand whether that thing has always been there or not, because before my rectal bleeding started, I never really felt around in my butt, to be honest.

May I ask how long your surgery lasted? Also, did you get general anesthesia or heavy sedation, and did you have a choice? Lastly, what type of fistula did you have and how bad did your CRS think it was?

Thanks -- sorry for all the questions! But I am curious! I am hoping I am in the same boat as you given that I have this fistula with regular drainage, but I'm not in severe pain.

Hi ajl1239,

I hope you are get rid off this pain. Since october 2014 I am also having anal fistula problem and recently I also noticed the same as you as below:

Dear all fistula friend, please pray for me, I hope it works this time for me.

This is my report: I has been dealing with horseshoe fistula for almost 5 years, and been through many surgeries, and has tried all the techniques that have mentioned for anal fistula (fistolectomy, seton, fibrin glue, flap advance, LIFT procedure...you name it). Every time i came out from surgeries, i pray that it would be the last time. Unfortunately, there was no last time, it seems like it is so hard if not impossible to cure this sickness. My doctor was so great, she had tried so hard and very patient to help me, but this disease did not seem like something that Western medicine can easily deal with. And even if they did, the chance are small and conservative.

Like all of you, i search and continues searching on google trying to find a solution. Some suggest to go to India to try sharka sutra, seem like a solution, but since it too far and the mean to get there kind of difficult for me. I keep delay it and delay it until now. What bother me the most is that, what is the guaranty that I have since I have to travel that far to do it? I am sure you all probably question the same. and for that reason, I decide not to go to India yet.

I tried Ghee and Milk, it did not work. Maybe, the sickness that he had is not what I had.

Last surgery was on January 2015. Pus still coming out, little but still come out. I have been waiting for 2 months to see if it helps with last surgery. No, so disappointed, pus still coming out every day on my soft tissue. So Sad so sad. So i went to google again and try to look for miracle again. Luckily, I bump into this little site in Viet Nam, there is a guy who post on the web saying that he had anal fistula and after many surgeries he still not able to cure. So he tried this new herb from a herb doctor somewhere in Viet nam. she operated under small shop in the little village of Viet Nam. He assured that it works. So for a sake of luck, I got friend who lived in Viet nam, I call and ask him to buy this herb for me and mail it to me. I received the package on March 5, 2015 and start taking it. Each bag come with 30-40 little pills, make out of herb. Instruction say, take it 3 times a day and within 15 days, pus will stop. But need to complete the course for 3-5 months to rebuild all the tissues and prevent recurrence. I took the herb but not 3 times a day, I only do it twice a day since I am skeptical about this herb, and also I am working man so I took one in morning and one at night before go sleep. Man, After 13 days, pus really stop, no more pus coming out. It gives me a little courage to continues. At first, I told my wife about this herb during dinner time, she laugh so did I. But we all know, only people who in this sickness understand that we will try anything that give us hope even though there is a small chance that It would work. So I am still taking this herb. In the morning I do sit bath, touching the area, start to realize that the hard tissue around my rectum been subside. it gets softer and softer (I feel there is a little tube of hard tissue, running from my 5 o'clock straight up to my 1 o'clock on my right hand side, it is about 1 inches.) I feel it getting softer and smaller. Please help me God, please make it works this time. I am really tired of this sickness.

I don't want to bring any hope to any one, but just want to share my personal experience and still testing this new herb, give it a month or two to see if it is really work. If it is I will post it up here for all of you to know. Hope that it can help all of us. For a small amount of money ($25 US dollar for 30 days supplies), if it works, God help us all.

i will pray for you all.

Hi Tom,

I am glad that you got relief from the pain. I am using homeopathy medicine from India from the past 6 months and still I am getting little bit of pus daily, other than that I don't have any other issues, but sometimes I am worrying whats going on inside and by when this external opening will be covered. After reading your posting I would like to know about the Herb that you are using and its availability in online to get it. Your help will be really appreciated.

Thanks!

Pravin

Treat fistula/fissure/abscess/piles with thuthi leaf or the powder made from it.
Thuthi plant's botanical name is Abutilon Indicum. Do not go for surgery. Its cost is not even 1 dollar USD. But will be available in India. Google thuthi leaf benefits.

Hello,

My name is Mehmet from Turkey / Istanbul.

First of all, please accept my apologies for my English. However, I’ll write down here what I’ve lived and I suppose that no one cares about the grammer as everyone has a big problem like a fistula.

In the summer of 2014 I had a very painful time which ended with a discharged pus, I went to the doctor and the diagnosis was a perianal fistula. I lived with that fistula for 3 years and refused to go to the doctor again and never thought to have an operation. I read many forums, read many comments and depressed each time.

I must say that my fistula was never a very disturbing one. Once or twice a month at the mouth of the fistula an abscess was formed and it was drained by itself. At the regular time, I was feeling a very tiny leak which caused some bad smell and itching.

At the end of 2017, a doctor friend of mine suggested me the Ozone Treatment, which I started in December 2017. At the moment ( May 2018 ) my fistula is completely closed for two months.

While the treatment, I promised myself to come back that forums and share the process if it succeeds, as I know that how I feels to be hopeless. Briefly, the doctor had me totally for 20 sessions.

At the end of the 20th one, I had a MR and the report said that “the possibility of an active fistula tract and a formation of an abscess is too low”

Each session consist of two treatments:   a) Major Otohemotherapy ( they take one unit of your blood, add some Ozone to your blood out and give it back to your body and which takes around 20 minutes, and no pain.

b ) Fistula Insufflation ( with an injector nozzle they apply ozone gas into the fistula, again no pain which was about 2 minutes )

Each session is around $60. I went to the doctor twice a week.

This is my doctor. ( http://www.ozontedavi.com.tr/ )  Unfortunately, the web page is in Turkish. However, I suppose that around the world at the many of the big cities an ozone treatment center would be found.

As a conclusion, before taking the surgery decision, you may consider that ozone treatment as an option.

Each day of my life at the recent years, I was always thinging about my fistula about how would I live with it. For two months, I never think of it. I guess how pessimistic you feel, I just wanted to share my experience. I hope it works for someone. I wish all you health, a good treatment and luck.

Greetings from Istanbul.
